Intel To Kill Floppy Drives

164

According to The Register, Intel has plans to get rid of the floppy drive as well as PS/2 and serial ports. Apparently Intel has asked PC manufacturers to get rid of the floppy drive in the second half of 2002. There is no timetable on getting rid of PS/2 and Serial ports yet. Seems kinda wacky and there isnt any real suggestions made about what the replacement will be. I need my boot disk! Really though, what do they expect us to boot machines off of for that hardcore maintenance stuff, it's not like everyone in the world has a bootable cdrom or zip drive. Plus cdburners are not exactly super common (I guess Intel expects them to be?), what do you do when you need a boot disk and some punk ran off with your last one?
