The creators of "Urban Assault" created a game-engine named The Nebula Device and decided to give it away. It's an opensource, c++ based engine that supports windows and linux. Check the features here, and the rest of the website including download links right here.

(And yes, this is OLD news. But it is new to me, and thought some poeple might like it, and it hasn't been posted on the Shack.)
