Who is winning the Vesper's Host Dungeon World's First Race in Destiny 2?
Published , by Aidan O'Brien
It’s an interesting day for Destiny 2, as we have our first-ever World’s First Race that is for a Dungeon and not a Raid. That means it will be quicker, and it’s likely we will see some fun competition between Raid teams, as I suspect many of them will split in two for some friendly contests.
If you are looking for help with the Dungeon, our very own Sam Chandler is working his way through it as we speak, so go read his helpful guide.
Who is winning the Vesper’s Host Dungeon World’s First Race in Destiny 2?
And it is official! The World's First winners for Vesper's Host are Tides, Pine, and SpecialHero! Incredible work by them.
15:35 pm PT - And the normal mode is now live, which means Bungie must be confident that they have a legit winner.
14:59 pm PT - And a third team is apparently finished. Once again, still waiting on Bungie to confirm the winners.
14:40 pm PT - Bungie has announced that a second team has finished, but no indicator as to who, and I can't find anything, so it may have been off-stream.
14:31 pm PT - Still waiting on confirmation from Bungie, but huge work by the Indebted crew. They are currently messing around with their shiny new Ice Breakers, and it looks like they get a shot back for every two kills.
14:25 pm PT - I was so hyped I missed the exact minute it happened. Bungie is currently checking the finish to see if it is official.
14:2? pm PT - Okay, into the extension now. Back out of the safe room. Damage, damage, damage. Done! They have the chest and back to Orbit!!!
14:21 pm PT - They are back upstairs and starting the phase.
14:20 pm PT - I'm nervous for the players now, they have the first half of the shields gone now. Just dunked for the second one. Okay, Atides are heading back upstairs.
14:15 pm PT - HUGE damage phase from Atides, golly. Under one-third left as I am typing this, close to a quarter now. Yeah, they are back in the tunnel now, they'll need to crack the shields with two good runs here, then another damage phase. Let's go.
14:14 pm PT - Atides officially walks out for their second damage phase against Atraks. They have roughly one-third of the health gone in the first one.
14:11 pm PT - A quick note on the disabled weapons. Some of them did not go through, so according to Bungie people will be at risk of Guitar errors if they use them. Some players do seem to be embracing this risk to use the Wardcliff Coil.
14:04 pm PT - Okay, the Atides damage phases are really starting to flow now. They are on course to be the first group to get them to half health.
13:55 pm PT - This damage phase is likely to drag out for a while. Contest Mode appears to have rammed the boss's health through the roof, or at least I hope it has for all us normal Guardians who will be trying the Dungeon on normal mode.
13:44 pm PT - Atides just took two deaths in a row. The first was getting locked up in a corridor among a bunch of clones, and the second was Atraks just god-scoping him. Harsh because that was a good run.
13:41 pm PT - Atides just put together the best damage phase so far, and seem to be on course for a very good run here. They have damage extension mechanics down and appear to be approaching that level of polish that makes a finish possible.
13:38 pm PT - Of the four teams at the final boss, none of them are really ahead. They are all having good and bad damage phases as they don't have the polish yet. A big part of me thinks that Elysium is a strong bet in these circumstances, as they always seem to just get things down quicker than most other teams.
13:28 pm PT - Atides has made it to the final boss, so now we have a four-way race.
13:16 pm PT - We are seeing the classics come out now, with Xeno and Whisper making an appearance for damage against Atraks.
13:08 pm PT - ATP, Salt, and NAPainter all going through staggered damage phases, which is useful for us viewers. Elysium is back on their run now, but they got smashed early with an elevator death that completely threw them.
13:00 pm PT - Elysium just got their first damage and probably did a better job than ATP did. Just reactively smashing out damage. It was almost like watching people have a Spider Sense, seeing them dodge the wipe for staying still.
12:57 pm PT - Okay, now ATP his their second attempt at the damage, going with snipers and grenade launchers but that Atraks health bar pretty much just laughed in their faces. They also got wiped by a mechanic that might be forcing them to stay mobile, which is very interesting.
12:49 pm PT - They had to go outside to fight, but the boss was tanky. Potentially missing a mechanic here, which would make sense given how this Dungeon has gone so far.
12:47 pm PT - Okay, so the dunk will remove half the shield from Atraks, so we need one more successful dunk. Then it will be the first damage phase, and we can see how much of a DPS check this is.
12:43 pm PT - All The Players and crew really are close. They are getting into a small chamber under the main room and can drop off a nuclear core, but they just were not able to dunk it quickly enough. Interesting note: watching ATP snap aim to the panels that need to be shot with incredible precision makes me feel even older than I am.
12:36 pm PT - It looks like All The Players, Zemo, and Rim are really close to completion. They appear to have worked out some important mechanics in the encounter, have just started a run, and sound confident right now.
12:26 pm PT - Still the same three teams at the end. I am flicking through as many streamers as possible and cannot see anyone else there. The three at the end don't appear to have hit a proper damage phase yet; they are all still working on the mechanics.
12:10 pm PT - So it's ATP, Salt, and NAPainter all on the last fight, called The Corrupted Puppeter. The damage flying around in this encounter is very high.
12:06 pm PT - Huge kerfuffle on the Salt stream as they killed the Servitor but didn't realize they had to wipe a bunch of small versions. After a mad scramble, they go through it.
12:01 pm PT - NAPainter is in the lead! They cleared the fight and are on a traversal section.
19:59 am PT - Salt is so close. Parasite has just proven to be a DPS monster for this portion of the fight.
11:54 am PT - This damage phase is just brutal. Can't help but wonder how the health bar might go with six players.
11:47 am PT - Mactics has been through on the boss for a minute now; they have worked out the breakup mechanic.
11:43 am PT - We are into a refinement race between ATP and Salt, and whoever gets the polish in place first will crack this boss, but it is likely that there is some other mechanic that neither of us has found that can help them. Otherwise, it is likely this is a brutal Contest Mode DPS check.
11:35 am PT - Datto through to the second phase, looks like more and more groups will be getting through now as info might be out on the first stage mechanics.
11:27 am PT - Aztecross is through to the boss fight, but I am sure how long they have been there.
11:25 am PT - So you can break up the Servitor during the damage phase, but that still isn't helping the teams do any additional damage, so it looks like something is still missing.
11:20 am PT - ATP, Xemo, and Rim have also learned how to hit the damage phase, but don't have it down as smooth as Elysium do.
11:13 am PT - Salt's group got to the first damage phase against the Unified Servitor, but appeared to do very little damage. It looks like they will need to find a damage amplification mechanic quickly. The next phase should be fun as Elysium learns fast, as seen from their multiple World's First Raid wins.
11:10 am PT - According to Dungeon Report, this is now the longest Dungeon first clear in Destiny history.
11:02 am PT - Salt is onto the part of the fight where the huge Servitor breaks up into many small ones, but neither team is sure what to do.
10:56 am PT - ATPs group is making progress in the fight; it is very much the furthest team along.
10:47 am PT - ATP and crew are onto the first boss fight against the giant Servitor, and FalloutPlays is through the first encounter.
10:44 am PT - Saltagreppo is through to the second encounter now.
10:37 am PT - ATP is the furthest into the encounter. That makes them the current leaders, from what I can see. They just got nuked by a massive Servitor in the new encounter.
10:35 am PT - It's hard to figure out exactly what is going on just from streams, but the Orbs need to be charged and transported in a particular order. If they are dropped, they collect a debuff and will be destroyed if not picked up quickly enough.
10:29 am PT - Brutal, as on ATP's stream, they dropped one of the Orbs off the edge, and it does not respawn, so that's an instant team wipe to reset. Harsh.
10:27 am PT - An interesting point from the Evanf1997 stream is that the design of these can only really go so hard because Dungeons are designed to be possible to complete solo.
10:20 am PT - For those not in the know, a large list of things have been disabled for this race. Wardcliff Coil, Salvations Grip, One Thousand Voices, Alethonym, Tomorrow's Answer, and Yesterday's Question have all been banned. Both Deadfall and Moebius Quiver are gone for Hunters, and Titans are down Unbreakable and Peackeepers.
10:16 am PT - So far, all the teams are roughly in the same spot, as far as I can see. There is a glyph-based puzzle that is currently stopping their progress into a very large Fallen Ketch, and they seem to need to move an orb (always an orb!) forward before too many stacks build up on them.
10:10 am PT - There appears to be a timer on this first encounter, and most teams seem to be doing plenty of damage right now, so this will be more mechanics check than DPS check, which is what you would expect for a very early encounter.
10:05 am PT - The first section sees our would-be Guardians of note scurrying around in what appears to be a storage area as they try to figure out how to progress.
10:02 am PT - We are underway! Teams are loading in after visiting Spider in the Last City to get their quests. So far, things seem stable, but we'll see if the rush causes any connection issues as time goes on.
The Vesper’s Host Dungeon has yet to launch but will go live at 10:00 a.m. PT. Check back for regular updates on who is in the lead and what cool stuff is happening in the Dungeon.
The Dungeon will be launching in Contest Mode, which means it will be harder to complete for the first 48 hours. The first three fireteams to finish every encounter and loot the final chest will win a customized Vesper’s Host Activewear Hoodie and Vesper’s Host Bracelet. So, it's not as cool as the belts handed out for first place in a Raid race, but that makes sense.
Dungeon Race Details
Contest Mode will be enabled for 48 hours.
Normal Mode will become available as soon as the first three teams clear the dungeon, but you can still start in Content Mode for the first 48 hours, if you wish.
You will need to be at 1985 Power Level to be at the cap through all the encounters.
Entry Requirements
Put together a fire team of three players and start the Vesper’s Host dungeon in Contest Mode from the planet system map.
All fireteam members must own The Final Shape Dungeon Key and acquire the quest “Rogue Network” from Spider in the Last City Seasonal hub.
Completion Criteria
Once the final encounter is complete, the fireteam must loot the final chest, or their finish may not be recorded. A team's official finish will be recorded when they loot the final chest.
At least one member of the fire team must have completed and received loot for every encounter, and it must be the first time all members of the fire team have completed the activity.
