Doom on SMP systems

I'm not up to speed on Doom2K news, so this could be old - but Haakon Ringberg fired off an email to John Carmack, asking about SMP and IA64.
Q: Will your next major title (i.e. "doom2k") be SMP compatible?

Yes, dual CPU acceleration will be supported.

Q: Considering that Intel's IA64 might have hit mainstream by then, do you consider it possible/plausible that this same title of yours could/would take advantage of this new technology?

We would likely recompile for IA64, but we probably wouldn't do much in the way of specific tuning.
