Forbearance is one of those Grenade Launchers that you absolutely must have in your Destiny 2 build. This Wave Frame Arc launcher is, without a doubt, one of the best, if not the best, craftable weapon in the game, capable of annihilating waves of enemies with ease. Even the new version available via Onslaught is worth acquiring thanks to some powerful new perks. Below we’ve got god rolls for both the raid version and the new Brave Arsenal variant.
Forbearance can now be acquired from two locations: the Vow of the Disciple raid and the new Onslaught mode introduced with Into the Light. The main difference with the second one is that it removes Genesis and Sleight of Hand in the first column for Demolitionist and Disruption Break while the last column loses Turnabout for Desperate Measures. Additionally, it loses the Vow of the Disciple Origin trait in favor of Indominability.
The advantage of the Vow of the Disciple drop is that you can guarantee yourself a great roll thanks to it being craftable. Remember you can spawn an extra chest and buy one red border weapon a week. Take a look at our Vow loot table for information on other powerful weapons you can get, like Cataclysmic.
First, let’s look at the Forbearance god roll for the Onslaught version from Into the Light. Spoilers: This one is going to be much the same as the one from Vow of the Disciple.
Forbearance god roll - PVE | |
---|---|
Barrel | Quick Launch (Velocity +10, Handling +15) |
Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds (Velocity +10, Reload Speed +10) |
Perk 1 | Ambitious Assassin (Overflows the magazine based on the number of rapid kills before reloading) |
Perk 2 | One For All (Hitting three separate targets increases damage for a moderate duration) |
Origin Trait | Indomitability (Final blows grant grenade energy when playing a Light subclass and melee energy when playing a Darkness subclass) |
Masterwork | Reload Speed (+10 when fully masterworked) |
Mod | Major Spec (7.7 increased damage) |
The obvious pick here is going to be Ambitious Assassins and Chain Reaction. Get a kill, reload, and now you’ve got two grenades in the tube. Oh, and each kill you get will activate Chain Reaction, setting off more detonations across the field. It’s like Ignition but easier to proc.
An alternative roll would be Ambitious Assassins and One for All, as the latter of these increases the damage by 35 percent, allowing you to just keep throwing out huge damage numbers. This will be a great option for those who already have a crafted one from the raid and are looking for something a little different. It’s also good because Chain Reaction is getting a nerf in a future update. Another god roll you might like to consider is Demolitionist and Golden Tricorn.
This Forbearance god roll for PvE is the one that everyone uses. It excels at clearing groups of enemies like no other weapon in the game. Plus, Souldrinker will keep you alive and fighting, even in something tough like a Day One raid.
Forbearance god roll - PVE | |
---|---|
Barrel | Quick Launch (+10 Velocity, +15 Handling) |
Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds (+10 Velocity, +10 Reload Speed) |
Perk 1 | Ambitious Assassin (Overflows the magazine based on the number of rapid kills before reloading) |
Perk 2 | Chain Reaction (Each final blow with this weapon creates an elemental damage explosion) |
Origin Trait | Souldrinker (Gain health based on the number of hits before reloading) |
Masterwork | Reload Speed (+10 when fully masterworked) |
Mod | Major Spec (7.7 increased damage) |
Quick Launch and High-Velocity Rounds start Forbearance off on its best foot, increasing the grenade’s velocity so it gets to the foes faster.
Now there’s really only one option when it comes to the perk combo: Ambitious Assassins and Chain Reaction. By getting defeats with Forbearance, you will overflow the magazine when you next reload. This effectively chambers two rounds. Chain Reaction makes it easy to get these defeats as any foe that dies to Forbearance will explode, taking anyone near them out of the picture as well. It’s a positive feedback loop that will have waves of enemies falling.
As for the Masterwork, opinion is pretty much split across four options: Reload Speed, Velocity, Blast Radius, and Handling. This comes down to personal preference. I’ve opted for Reload Speed to ensure I can get Ambitious Assassin working as soon as possible. You don’t really need Velocity thanks to the Launcher Barrel and Magazine slots. Blast Radius is aided by Chain Reaction and you don’t really need Handling in PvE.
Wave Frame Grenade Launchers see a lot of use in Crucible and Forbearance is no exception. With a few great perks on offer, you’ll be able to keep yourself healed while still slaying through enemies with ease.
Forbearance god roll - PVP | |
---|---|
Barrel | Quick Launch (Velocity +10, Handling +15) |
Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds (Velocity +10, Reload Speed +10) |
Perk 1 | Unrelenting (Rapidly defeating targets triggers health regeneration. Guardians and powerful combatants count as more than one kill) |
Perk 2 | Desperate Measure (Weapon final blows grant bonus damage. Melee and grenade final blows grant a larger damage bonus that can stack) |
Origin Trait | Indomitability (Final blows grant grenade energy when playing a Light subclass and melee energy when playing a Darkness subclass) |
Masterwork | Handling (+10 when fully masterworked) |
Mod | Radar Booster (Slightly increases the range at which radar detects enemies) |
Now, you could go for the exact same roll as the Vow of the Disciple option further below, Surplus and Wellspring. This essentially gets your abilities topped up which then improve the launcher’s stats. Alternatively, you could lean into Unrelenting for the health-on-kill and couple it with Desperate Measures for the bonus to weapon damage.
Lean into the high Velocity stat further with Quick Launch and High-Velocity Rounds. This nearly maxes out the stat, which lets you focus on other areas for the Masterwork and mod. Handling will make it snappier to draw while Radar Booster is excellent as you're not going to be ADSing this and Quick Access Sling isn't needed when you're rolling with other Handling boosts.
While Dead Messenger is often the go-to for PvE Grenade Launchers, Forbearance can definitely compete and will free up your Exotic usage for something else.
Forbearance god roll - PVP | |
---|---|
Barrel | Quick Launch (+10 Velocity, +15 Handling) |
Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds (+10 Velocity, +10 Reload Speed) |
Perk 1 | Surplus (Increases handling, reload speed, and stability for reach fully charged ability) |
Perk 2 | Wellspring (Kills with this weapon generate ability energy. This energy is divided between your uncharged abilities) |
Origin Trait | Souldrinker (Gain health based on the number of hits before reloading) |
Masterwork | Handling (+10 when fully masterworked) |
Mod | Quick Access Sling |
As with the previous god roll, start with Quick Launch and High-Velocity Rounds. This ensures your foe has very little time to react before the grenade hits them.
When it comes to the perks, it comes down to personal preference. This roll focuses on rewarding you when you’ve got abilities charged and helping you get said abilities charged. It’s unlikely you’ll have everything on cooldown, so you’ll always be benefiting from the slight buffs of Surplus and Wellspring.
You could swap out Surplus for Steady Hands, though. This will improve the handling when you get kills, which will help you swap to it faster. However, you’re better off slapping in Quick Access Sling and crafting it with a Handling Masterwork.
A Forbearance god roll remains a top-tier pick in Destiny 2. This Grenade Launcher can clear a room in an instant and is a valuable tool in every player’s kit. Read over our Destiny 2 Strategy Guide for more weapon recommendations.
