During the PlayStation Showcase, Bungie appeared to reveal its first new project as a member of PlayStation Studios. In a surprising move, the studio is making a new Marathon game, returning to one of its earliest franchises.
The last Marathon game out in the late 1990s, rounding out a trilogy of shooters that would pre-date some of the studio's most notable work. Since then, Bungie has pumped out blockbuster hits including the Halo and Destiny franchises. Now, the company will reinvent Marathon as an extraction shooter, tapping into a popular subgenre of the battle royale craze.
Despite Sony's multi-billion dollar acquisition of Bungie, Marathon will be a multi-platform game, coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. If you're trying to keep up with all of the PlayStation Showcase news, we've got you taken care of.
