Tuesday's Nintendo Direct kept right on going with the introduction of Shigeru Miyamoto. While some might have expected him to discuss the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie, he took a moment to talk about the Pikmin franchise. After briefly showing off some Pikmin Bloom footage, Miyamoto unveiled the next entry in the series proper with a first tease of Pikmin 4.
There isn't a lot of information available in relation to Pikmin 4 just yet. However, the game's first teaser does raise some questions. The biggest question is: Where exactly are the Pikmin? While the previous three games have taken players to distant planets populated by the little helper creatures, this teaser seems to indicate a land noticeably closer to home. Wherever they are, danger will be around every corner, including some familiar-looking threats, like the Pikmin-munching Bulborb.
Pikmin 4 will be the franchise's first numbered entry in nearly a decade. Pikmin 3 first release on the Wii U back in July 2013 and proved to be a wonderful experience. A deluxe edition released on the Nintendo Switch back in 2020. It was also very good. A side-scrolling spin-off called Hey! Pikmin release on Nintendo 3DS back in 2017. It was not quite as good.
Pikmin 4 will come exclusively to Nintendo Switch in 2023. Look for more information on the game in the months ahead. We'll watch out for anything further here at Shacknews.
