Northpoint Dead
Steve glossed over this yesterday, but it looks like his loss of Northpoint service is permanent. CNET News.com is reporting that Northpoint is terminating its DSL service immediately. Apparently a group of ISP's was going to band together to keep Northpoint afloat for another 30 days, but Northpoint's bankers refused, saying that $2.4 million simply wasn't enough money. It's looking more and more like DSL might be going the way of the dinosaurs and betamax, with cable modems coming in to fill the gap. And with all the bureaucracy involved and the weeks it takes DSL to get installed vs. the 2 days it takes for a cable modem, is anyone really surprised?

Cable Modems are great, if only they were offered everywhere. Cable companies have to upgrade wires to get service to everyone, same kinds of problems DSL has with the distance from the connection to your computer slowing down your connect rate.
Everyone needs a couple of T3's to get the speed you need....
