Bristol-based indie developer Spiral Circus gave us our first look at Silt back at the PC Gaming Show in June 2021. In this game, players take on the role of a curious undersea diver as they journey through a mysterious and unsettling ocean full of creatures both helpful and hostile. We knew it was coming to PC, but Nintendo Indie World confirmed that it’s also coming to the Switch in June 2022.
Spiral Circus got to announce Silt’s upcoming arrival on the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Indie World showcase on May 11, 2022. As a diver, players will traverse a variety of treacherous undersea terrain, trying to survive the deadly threats therein. However, there’s another way to get past otherwise impassable areas. You can take on control of nearby friendly aquatic creatures to interact with and traverse areas in ways you otherwise wouldn’t be able to. From tiny fish to eels and even hammerhead sharks and plenty more, it looks like players affect and take over a variety of aquatic life around them with a soul-like aura.
That said, it also looks like there are some terrifying things to contend with and escape in Silt. The trailers have been full of giant sea creatures with maws full of sharp teeth, as well as wormy barnacles that look like they’re a bit too clingy. Getting through Silt looks like it’s not going to be easy.
First shown at the 2021 PC Gaming Show, Silt has an art style and unsettling nature about it that reminds of games like Limbo. The stark black and white contrasts also build that mood, but Spiral Circus also captures the spirit of the deep seas, with all of their mysteries both good and bad.
With Silt set to launch on Nintendo Switch in June, we’re likely to see it come out on other platforms like PC too. Stay tuned for more details as we await a concrete release date on the game.
