Aggro Crab delivered a widely beloved debut with Going Under in 2020. Now, the developer’s sophomore act will see it living up to the Aggro Crab moniker. Another Crab’s Treasure is a Dark Souls-inspired 3D platformer set in a dangerous underwater world.
Aggro Crab provided the first look at Another Crab’s Treasure during the May 2022 Nintendo Indie World Showcase. The announcement came with a gameplay reveal, that showed the player navigating various underwater environments and taking on powerful enemies. As a crab, you’ll use miscellaneous objects like tin cans and mugs to act as a shell and defend from enemy attacks.
We also get a glimpse at the game’s platforming element, with our protagonist leaping across jellyfish heads and swimming through the water.
“I've had this game idea about a hermit crab that wears trash as a shell for like 6 years and nobody would let me do it.” said Nick Kaman, Art Director at Aggro Crab. “They would say things like ‘We don't have the budget’ or ‘You literally just drew a picture of a crab on a paper towel.’ That's when Kowloon Nights came in with a fat stack of cash and bankrolled this dumb game about crabs eating garbage and fighting other crabs during the end of the world. Now Another Crab’s Treasure is real and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. I love this game.”
Another Crab’s Treasure looks like a departure from Going Under, but still packs that humor that comes with an Aggro Crab production. The game is currently slated to launch in 2023 for Switch and PC. It wasn’t the only game that got announced during the May 2022 Nintendo Indie World Showcase, as we also got our first look at NamaTakahashi’s ElecHead.
