Nintendo Switch Online has offered players a way to play online and explore classic libraries of Nintendo games. Now, players are about to get a huge addition to their membership with an expansion coming to Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions. It will cost a little extra, but the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will bring Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games to the Switch Online library in late October.
The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack was revealed during the Nintendo Direct presentation on September 23, 2021. It’s a package that can be added either in new subscriptions or on top of existing subscriptions to Nintendo Switch Online (meaning it will cost more than the current regular subscription price). There are a number of features said to be coming in the Expansion Pack. Chief among them is the launch of Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis libraries that will include playable classic games from both systems with both local and online multiplayer where applicable. It’s currently slated to arrive sometime in late October.
Nintendo doesn’t have a release date on the Expansion Pack, nor did it go into details on the further features coming to Nintendo Switch Online, but it did share a peek at the lineup that will be coming for both the N64 and Genesis libraries. You can see what’s on the way below.
With these games confirmed, it’s looking like Nintendo Switch Online is getting a neat boost in its offerings. Plus, Nintendo is offering new Genesis and Nintendo 64 controllers to go with the new console additions to online play. Of course, you can still stick with the regular subscription to the service as well.
