Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake announced for PS5

The PlayStation Showcase presentation kicked off today, bringing us a wealth of PlayStation news and reveals and it couldn’t have kicked off stronger. Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games took up the opening act to share that it was going to be work on a beloved classic. They officially announced the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, coming to PlayStation 5.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced during the PlayStation State of Play presentation on September 9, 2021. The remake is being developed by Aspyr, which Lucasfilm Games has trusted with a number of previous ports and revisits to classic Star Wars games. Aspyr has worked on PS4 and Switch ports of the Star Wars Jedi Knight series and, more recently, Star Wars: Republic Commando. Knights of the Old Republic will easily be the most high profile among these efforts so far, and it appears it will be console exclusive at launch with a PS5 and PC release to start, though no window was given at this time.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a beloved game, one of the golden era of BioWare RPGs. It contained an original story of Jedi and Sith forces, as well as battles and politics throughout the galaxy. We got very little out of this teaser, so it's hard to say how far Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games are going to go with the remake. Of further note is that neither Electronic Arts nor BioWare seem to be in any way connected to this remake, which confirms a rumor from earlier this year about the game's development.

Whatever the case, we still don't know a lot about the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake beyond platforms. Stay tuned here at Shacknews as we continue to watch for further updates, details, and reveals on the game throughout the coming year.
