Obsidian has been building up on the background shrunken child sandbox that is Grounded for around a year now. The game has expanded with all sorts of fun things in the course of that time and it got another update reveal at E3 2021, featuring even more terrifying spiders and some shroomy goodness among a wealth of other goodies and improvements such as pets. It’s appropriately called the Grounded: Shroom & Doom update.
Obsidian revealed the all-new Grounded Shroom & Doom Update during the Xbox Bethesda E3 2021 showcase on June 13, 2021. There’s a ton of goodies (as well as threats) available in this next one. Some of the more docile critters in the game will be available to befriend for one. We got to see a tease that we might be able to turn docile aphids into pet friends. There’s also new abilities to sit, unlock achievements, and new mushrooms that will lead to formidable base construction (mushroom kingdom anyone?). You can see the trailer in action just below.
We didn’t want to come out and say it, but you probably saw it didn’t you. Billed as “something literally no one was asking for,” Shoom & Doom introduces us to the “Doom” element of the update title in the form of the Broodmother. This is a spider unlike anything you have encountered yet. It lurks in a web-covered layer and features a tarrying size and aggressiveness that is sure to make more players reconsider whether or not they should be utilizing that arachnophobia filter. Most likely, a great award or crafting element awaits if somehow you can thwart her danger.
With the Grounded Shroom & Doom update coming on June 30, 2021, stay tuned for patch notes and further updates leading up to the new content. Be sure to check out our other E3 2021 coverage throughout the weekend as well.
