It was fairly recently that Amazon Games announced it would be partnering with South Korean developer Smilegate to bring its massively multiplayer online RPG, Lost Ark, to Western audiences. Now, it would appear that collaboration has come to fruition. During Summer Game Fest 2021, Amazon Games announced it will officially be bringing Lost Ark over to the West as a free-to-play game this coming Fall 2021.
Amazon Games debuted the announcement for the Western launch of Lost Ark during the Summer Game Fest 2021 showcase on June 10, 2021. Lost Ark has actually been out for quite some time elsewhere in the world. Smilegate actually launched Lost Ark in 2018 and it expanded to Russian and Japanese markets in 2020. The game has done quite well for itself and pulled in numerous awards for its excellence and popularity. It presents an incredible action-based combat style, monsters ranging from numerous denizens to massively gargantuan encounters like dragons and other beasts, and plenty of interesting environments to explore. You can see the game in action in the trailer below.
The sheer style of Lost Ark is what drove Amazon Games to partner with Smilegate for a Western release, a partnership which was solidified in August 2020. Now, with the two having worked on localization for the better part of the last year, Amazon and Smilegate are finally prepared to give players the fantasy-fiction action-RPG experience which has been so thoroughly enjoyed in other parts of the world. You can even sign up to be a tester ahead of Lost Ark’s Fall North American launch on its official website.
With this in mind, stay tuned for further news and information on Lost Ark in the near future. We should be hearing about possible testing and betas, as well as a more concrete release date fairly soon as we approach the Fall season.
