DOOM Engine Demonstrated
John Carmack of Id Software demonstrated a new in-development gaming engine. Carmack says that GeForce3 makes it possible for objects in the engine to react the same way that they would in real-life, with realistic lighting, shadows and other effects.
And from MacNN
"Ever light casts its own highlight, ever item casts its own shadow... just wonderful things for games. Everything behaves the same now." Carmack mentions id uses Maya. "We can bring cinematic quality to games now. The GeForce3 is the most exciting thing we've had to work with in years."
Uh, WOW?! I'm like dumbfounded, a live demonstration of the new DOOM engine? I'll try to get any other info I can on this, and if anyone else finds any details please send them in. Also, I should note that Quake3 was first shown at a Macworld expo, and the first ever screenshots and a high-resolution video of footage of the game was released shortly after. The moment we dig up any info or videos or anything it will be here.
update: The keynote speech has completed over in Tokyo so now the waiting game begins as we hope and search for information. Maarten and I will keep you guys informed. :) note: Anyone posting links saying "screenshots / video here!" which are fake will be banned. No exceptions.
note2: This is not an ER style thread, the guidelines apply to this story and will be enforced.
