Annapurna Interactive has revealed its latest upcoming project with the creator of Hyper Light Drifter. Solar Ash is a new and colorful action-adventure platformer in which players will skate through the skies and lands of a mysterious world and do battle with massive creatures. It’s also coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Epic Games Store later in 2021.
Heart Machine lead Alx Preston went into deep details on what players can expect from Solar Ash on the PlayStation State of Play presentation on February 25, 2021. In the game, players will take on the role of a character known as Ray, who is a Voidrunner. Caught inside a giant blackhole known as the Ultra Void which has eaten up everything in its patch, Ray ventures into the blackhole to try to discover an answer to what has caused the Ultra Void and if she can save her homeworld.
Solar Ash was revealed back in June 2020 during another PlayStation presentation, but we got a far more in-depth look here. The game is built upon speed and fluidity with Ray traveling along fluffy ashen clouds and terrain inside the Ultra Void as if ice skating through it. As Ray travels through the Void, she’ll come across various corrupted and grotesque creatures that will grow in size and danger as she travels further. Eventually, it will culminate in Ray facing off against massive sentinels that look after the Void. It will take quite a bit of strategy, different forms of mobility, and good timing to bring these massive beasts down and move forward.
Solar Ash is slated for a launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Epic Games Store sometime in 2021. With much of the story and gameplay revealed stay tuned for a release date as we await further details later this year.
