Today’s State of Play brought quite a few updates and bits of news, including a release date for Oddworld: Soulstorm, the latest title in the Oddworld series.
On top of revealing that Oddworld: Soulstorm will arrive on PlayStation 4, PS4, and PC on April 6, 2021, the showcase also gave us a deeper look at the world of Soulstorm, which promises to include quite a few additional features and mechanics from the originals in the series. It will also be available as part of the PS5 PlayStation Plus lineup as the free game in April.
You can check out the trailer yourself for another look at the gameplay. Oddworld: Soulstorm is shaping up to be a very pretty—though dark—game, and the 2.9D graphics that it utilizes make for a very intriguing experience. It’s one that Oddworld fans will no doubt be excited to dive into when it releases in just a couple of months.
In Oddworld: Soulstorm, Abe will go face to face with a new terrifying machination. It’s a completely new story inspired by the original tale, but the developers have promised it offers a “fresh narrative” to go along with the new gameplay. Soulstorm will also act as a true sequel to Abe’s Oddysee, so fans of the original have a lot to look forward to.
One big thing to take into account, though, is that the PC version of the game will be an Epic Games exclusive. It’s unclear at the moment if this exclusivity will be timed like many of the Epic Games exclusives before it, or if the game is even planned to release on Steam at any point in the future.
We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more details on Oddworld: Soulstorm. For now, head back over to our State of Play page for even more useful news and announcements.
