League of Legends is looking to expand beyond its MOBA roots and part of that effort includes the upcoming RPG, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story. During The Game Awards presentation on Thursday, players got to check out gameplay for the first time.
First revealed at The Game Awards 2019, Ruined King goes in a slightly different direction than your usual League of Legends fun, as evidenced by the gameplay seen in tonight's trailer. Players will take part in turn-based battles, though these fights will still utilize elements of lane-based combat. Attacks can hit enemies directly or affect lanes. And like League of Legends, each Champion will have their ultimate abilities they can take into battle. Items and passive abilities will also be available, in case you need to refill health or mana. Character-building will be a key element of Ruined King, as each Champion will have Attack Power, Will, Stamina, Physical Defense, Magic Defense, Critical Damage, Critical Chance, Haste, Evade, Armor Penetration, Magic Penetration, and Lifesteal stats to manage.
Players can also take part in different activities beyond the Ruined King's story. This includes hunting minibosses on a Bounty Board, fishing, filling out a bestiary, uncovering additional lore, or practicing combat in a Battle Arena.
As previously revealed following League of Legends Worlds, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is set to release in 2021 on PC and consoles.
