Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to be the next installment in the long-running FPS franchise, launching on November 13 for both current and next-gen consoles. During Gamescom Opening Night Live, we were given new details about the game’s campaign. This includes the fact that Black Ops Cold War will allow players to create their own character, make pivotal choices, and influence the game’s ending.
During Gamescom Opening Night Live 2020, Geoff Keighley spoke with a dev from Black Ops Cold War to learn more about the game’s narrative. After confirming that the game is a direct sequel to the 2010 Black Ops story, it was shared that players can create and customize their own character for the campaign. This includes gender, as well as military background. The background choices made will influence how other characters interact with the player in the story.
It was also revealed that there will be different decisions that the player can make throughout the story, which will lead to branching pathways within the campaign. Black Ops Cold War will also feature multiple endings, as they’ve enjoyed doing with past Black Ops titles. There was also a new trailer shown during the event, which felt like an extension of what we saw in the campaign reveal.
In the trailer, we see real footage from the Vietnam War and other global conflicts of the 1900s. A group of characters, including returning Jason Hudson, form around a table and weigh the options of dealing with Soviet agent Perseus. The trailer also features more CGI Ronald Reagan, as seen in the initial reveal.
