Grand Theft Auto 5 has defined an era not only for Rockstar Games, but for the medium itself. Initially released seven years ago, GTA 5 has seen supreme success on a plethora of platforms. Launching on the cusp of new console releases, GTA 5 was one of many titles that were bi-generational. Now, the game will become tri-generational. It’s been officially announced that GTA 5 will be available on PS5 in 2021.
This announcement kicked off PlayStations “Future of Gaming” livestream. Though the game has been out for the greater part of a decade, Grand Theft Auto 5 is still one of the most popular games today. Rockstar Games’ dedication to adding new content to GTA online has kept that community active.
Rockstar Games states that GTA 5 on the PS5 will be “expanded and enhanced.” During the trailer, it was also announced that there will be a standalone version of GTA Online releasing next year, exclusively free for PlayStation 5 players. In addition to this, PS Plus members will receive a million dollars in GTA Online every month that they play the game until it launches on PS5. Grand Theft Auto 5 is set to hit next generation consoles in 2021.
