From the creative minds at Twisted Pixel Games comes Path of the Warrior. This is a new, beat ‘em up experience for Oculus Quest, announced at The Game Awards 2019. Please check out the trailer below!
In a surprise move, Path of the Warrior was both announced at The Game Awards 2019, and released in one fell swoop. The trailer, which can be seen below, starts with some iconic pixelated animations and gameplay, before being thrust into fully rendered 3D models. It’s a fantastic transition that really sells the experience.
The inspiration for Path of the Warrior is immediately evident. Side-scrolling beat-‘em-ups like Streets of Rage and Double Dragon spring to mind. In the trailer, the player character can be seen throwing punches at bikies, buff clowns, and what looks like secret agent ninjas.
Gameplay seems to include the obvious punches, as well as a variety of weapons like knifes and throwing darts. In one section, the player can be seen carrying a biker and then throwing them into a duke box. It seems as if the game will allow for a wide mix of combat styles through fists and the environment.
According to VentureBeat, Path of the Warrior takes places through five different environments, each one culminating in a boss fight. The team at Twisted Pixel have had a few years of experience developing for VR with recent titles including B-Team and Wilson’s Heart, an action and horror game respectively.
