Designed as the first Surface device to fit in your pocket, Microsoft's hybrid of Windows and Android will no doubt make the Surface Duo an enticing device for professionals or those looking to embrace the fold-up phone phenomenon. But, if you've been looking for more details on what exactly the Surface Duo's specs are or even its price, then you might have found yourself struggling to find such information. To assist you, we've put together this full guide of everything we know about the Surface Duo specs, price, pre-order date, and more.
Unfortunately, as it stands at the moment, not too much is known about the Surface Duo. The upcoming foldable phone doesn't have a set price or a ballpark figure from Microsoft. However, based on the asking price of Samsung's similar device, the Galaxy Fold, we wager that that Surface Duo will probably come in around the $1,000 mark for the lower-end offering. Of course, this is all just speculation on our end, so that price could be lower or higher depending on how Microsoft decides to market the device, and how much they decide to put into the hardware itself.
When it comes to pre-order information, there's no real set dates or even timeframe just yet. Microsoft did announce the Duo as being available sometime in the holiday season of 2020, so we expect that pre-orders should open somewhere around October or November to make room for a December release. Of course, it's also not completely unlikely for phone pre-orders to open up a week or two from the official release, so we'll keep an ear to the ground for any additional info.
When it comes to specs, we're not really sure what to say. Microsoft showed off an intriguing looking device, however, they haven't shared any of the details about the Surface Duo just yet. What we do know, though, is that the phone will feature a foldable 8.3 display that when folded will feature two 5.3 inch displays. It's unclear if the Surface Duo will focus on a more Windows-friendly chip as some of Microsoft's devices have in the past, or if the company will embrace the Qualcomm Snapdragon series to bring their new phone to life.
The Duo does appear to be quite thin for a folding smartphone, though, so it will be intriguing to see just how in-depth Microsoft decides to go with the phone's actual guts. We do know that the Duo and the much bigger Surface Neo are set to run on WindowX, a new hybrid that combines the best of Windows with the best of Android. Microsoft did make it very clear that the operating system will be much more akin to regular Android OS than it's previous Windows Mobile OS, though.
Unfortunately, information about the Surface Duo is very slim pickings right now. We've got our eyes open, though, and our crystal balls ready to intercept any additional information that the tech giant might throw out about its upcoming return to mobile phones.
