Earlier this week we covered the release of Gen 5 Pokemon in Pokemon Go, Niantic’s hit mobile game. Now, though, players have discovered that not all of the Gen 5 Pokemon who made the jump to Go can evolve naturally. Instead, you’ll need to find Unova Stones and use them to trigger certain Pokemon’s evolutions. In this guide, we’ll show you how to get Unova Stones, as well as discuss which Pokemon from Gen 5 require this new stone to evolve.
Like the Sinnoh Stones introduced earlier this year, Unova Stones are an item that players will need to acquire if they are wanting to evolve certain Gen 5 Pokemon from the Unova region. While these items are extremely important to evolving specific Gen 5 Pokemon, it isn't the easiest item to acquire.
To get your hands on a Unova Stone, you’re going to need to complete Research Breakthroughs. These can be earned by completed Field Research tasks from Poke Stops. The first Field Research task that you complete each day will reward you with a stamp, and once you have collected seven of those stamps, you’ll be able to achieve a Research Breakthrough. The tricky thing here, though, is that the Unova stone is not a guaranteed drop from completing these breakthroughs, which means you might need to complete a few Research Breakthroughs before you can acquire one of these important items.

While there is only a handful of Gen 5 Pokemon that made the jump to Pokemon Go, there are four of them that will require the Unova Stone to evolve. These Pokemon include:
When you use the Unova Stone with the Pokemon above, they will evolve to the following respectively:
