Borderlands 3 has a ton of Easter Eggs for players to find, and when I say a ton, I mean an absolutely mind-boggling amount. While we’ve discovered quite a few of the Easter Eggs already, a new one has appeared that takes players on a huge Lord of the Rings Easter Egg quest, as well as rewards them with a shotgun that also alludes to the popular fantasy series. In this guide, we’ll break down how to find the quest, called The Demon in the Dark, as well as how to get the Burning Chomper shotgun.
Due to how late in the game you find this quest, we would like to warn readers of possible spoilers. If you don’t care about spoilers, then go ahead and keep reading.
To get your hands on The Demon in the Dark side quest, you’re going to need to make your way to Konrad’s Hold on Pandora. This location is discovered after you return to Pandora later in the story campaign, so you’ll need to progress a fair bit to find it. Once in Konrad’s Hold, make your way to the area known as Last Stand Yard. We’ve included an image of where the quest on the map appears, so head there.
Want to get more Legendary weapons? Here’s a quick guide on one of the best loot caves you can find in Borderlands 3.
Upon arriving, speak with the robot head to pick up the quest. There’s a lever nearby that you need to trigger to enter the main area for this quest, which resembles the Mines of Moria from the Lord of the Rings series. Follow the instructions and then head inside.
Throughout this quest, players will explore the mine area and explore several rooms that are fashioned after the different areas that the Fellowship of the Ring explores in the first Lord of the Rings movie. In fact, at the end of the quest players will have to defeat a boss that is named similarly to Balrog, the demon that Gandalf goes face to face against as they try to escape the mines in the movie. After you defeat this demon, you can head back and talk to Wren, the robot head that you met to get the quest originally, and she’ll reward you with the Burning Chomper.
This shotgun’s bullets will break off into whip-like rounds when fired, which heavily resembles the whip that Balrog uses in the movie to pull Gandalf down with him. That’s really all you need to know to acquire this weapon and complete this Easter Egg quest. We haven’t spoiled too much of the goody in the quest, as it’s one you’ll want to experience yourself.
