Destiny 2 will soon be free-to-play on all supported platforms with something Bungie is calling New Light. This will provide the base game to players who wish to try it free of charge, allowing them to get a taste for Bungie’s looter shooter before spending a dime.
Destiny 2 will be free-to-play on October 1, 2019. The supported platforms are PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam, and Google Stadia. This will be part of Destiny 2: New Light, giving players access to base content at no charge.
For players looking for full details, Bungie has launched a New Light portion of its website. This will give players full details on what free-to-play Destiny 2 looks like, including the ability to sign up for updates on when New Light is available for download.
Players that are wondering what exactly New Light includes will be happy to know it’s not a small amount of content. All of Year 1 Destiny 2 will be available, including the Curse of Osiris and Warmind expansions. Regarding Year 2 content, players will gain access to locations like Tangled Shore and Dreaming City but won’t have access to the Forsaken story missions. Year 3, which will begin with Shadowkeep, will see players able to play the first mission on the Moon, and explore the location via patrol. This is all in addition to access to the Crucible and Gambit, among other things.
Should you still want to find out more about Destiny 2 free-to-play via New Light, be sure to watch the Bungie ViDoc - Out of the Shadows. We’ve embedded in this post for your convenience, and it’s basically just 15 minutes of Bungie explaining the ins and outs of New Light, and their decision to split from their publishing partnership with Activision.
