Former head of Sonic Team and Sonic the Hedgehog lead programmer Yuki Naka is working at Square Enix now, as you may remember.
Naka made an announcement on Twitter today thanking fans for their birthday messages and noting that he's working on an "original action game" at Square Enix.
“Thank you for your birthday message,” he wrote. “Today I’m 54 years old. How many games will I be able to make by the retirement age, including the original action game that I’m currently making at Square Enix? I’d like to work hard to develop a game that everyone around the world can enjoy.” The developer joined Square Enix all the way back in 2018.
Little is known about what Naka is working on beyond what he revealed himself, but he's ventured outside of Sonic titles in the past. He's the founder of game development team Prope, which has released games like Fishing Resort, Rodea the Sky Soldier, and the puzzler Ivy the Kiwi?, speaking of just a few of his titles.
Hopefully Naka will shed some light on what this new action game is all about, especially since we could really use his expertise on another great Sonic title. For now, we'll have to sit back and wait to see what he's got up his sleeve. We can't wait to see what it is when he finally unveils it, especially since he's something of a legend in the gaming world.
What do you think Naka could be up to? Let us know in the comments below.
