How to skip the Borderlands 3 intro cutscene

Published , by Josh Hawkins

Borderlands 3 is finally here, which means it is time to dive in and start blasting away Psychos and collecting sweet loot. If you’re just starting out the game, or if you decide you want to create another character, then you’ll be sad to find you can’t skip the opening cutscenes by default. Thankfully, though, there is a workaround for PC players and in this guide,  we’ll show you how to skip the Borderlands 3 intro cutscene.

How to skip the Borderlands 3 intro cutscene

When Borderlands 3 first released we published a guide addressing player’s question of whether or not they could skip cutscenes in Borderlands 3. Unfortunately, there’s still no way to skip the cutscenes that happen later in the game (hopefully that comes at some point, as it will make True Vault Hunter mode more bearable for those who just want to shoot things), but you can skip the long intro cutscene before you choose your character.

Unfortunately, the method that we’re going to describe here can’t be utilized by players on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4. This means that only PC players will be able to take advantage of this cutscene fix. To skip the intro cutscene, you’re going to need to navigate to the game files on your computer. This can be found in the directory that you downloaded it to. Normally this will probably be your C:// drive, however, if you run multiple drives like we do, it could be somewhere else.

You can find the Movies folder under the Content folder in your Borderlands 3 directory.

Either way, to locate your game files, head into Explorer and find your Epic Games Library folder. Here you can find all of the games that you’ve downloaded through the Epic Games Launcher. Once you have located your Borderlands 3 game files, open up the folder and find the folder called OakGame. Next, open up Content. Now, you’re going to want to open up Movies. This is where you’ll disable the intro video. To do that, look for the file titled MARCUS_INTRO.mp4. To disable the intro cutscene simply rename this to MARCUS_INTRO_back.mp4. This will effectively kill the intro scene, allowing you to play through the game without having to watch that long opener again.

Fun fact, you can also skip the opening logos if you want by following the same steps and renaming each logo movie something different. Just keep in mind this might cause you to have a prolonged black screen until the main menu loads up.
