The latest entry in the Yakuza series looks absolutely fantastic, and our first look at Yakuza: Like A Dragon (Yakuza 7, if you're keeping track) doesn't disappoint.
The first Western trailer out of Tokyo Game Show 2019 shows off some of the awesome new features coming in the game that follow protagonist Ichiban Kasuga. After spending 18 years in prison for taking the fall for a yakuza head, he's finally out in the real world and mucking about. He looks for a job, but ends up getting a job class instead by pulling a "sword" (baseball bat) out of the ground and becoming a hero. Yes, Yakuza 7 is going to be a different one, to say the very least.
The trailer goes over just a few of the job classes in-game, such as the dancer or host, which both have intriguing additions. The entire slate of changes to the game are pretty cool, actually – the new turn-based RPG combat system allows for things the series has never done before, and it looks super chaotic, nearly reminiscent of the ultra-stylish Persona series.
The dynamic shifting from player to player is exciting as ever, and it looks like those comfortable with the action-packed fighting from the other games will find something to really sink their teeth into here. There's even a karting feature called Dragon Kart, which looks extremely Mario Kart-esque, and you really have to see it to believe it.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is going to be an intriguing mixture of genres, and we can't wait to get our hands on it. Unfortunately, we won't get a taste until sometime in 2020, when the Western release is set to drop. It's poised to release in January for Japanese players.
