Movies based on video games always seem to have some kind of trouble, and that trend seems to be continuing with Sony Pictures' Uncharted film. New reports have surfaced online indicating that director Dan Trachtenberg has backed out of the film, marking the fifth director to exit the project.
The studio is still searching for a replacement director following Trachtenberg's departure, according to a report from Deadline. Trachtenberg had only taken over directorial duties following the departure of Shawn Levy, who left to direct Free Guy around the start of 2019. David O. Russel, Neil Burger, and Seth Gordon had all been attached to direct prior to Levy's involvement.
Thankfully, fan-favorite Tom Holland is still attached to the project, as he has been since first announcing his role as Nathan Drake back in 2017. Of course, fans of Holland will likely have also heard that he's no longer slated to star in any more Spider-Man films after Marvel and Sony failed to come to an agreement regarding rights to the wall crawler. This is despite Spider-Man: Far From Home proving to be a major box office success for Sony Pictures.
For now, we'll just have to wait and see who will step in to replace Trachtenberg on the upcoming Uncharted film. We'll be sure to report back once we hear of any new developments, so keep it tuned to Shacknews' Uncharted home page for the latest updates. Until then, fans can at least get a few Nathan Drake-fueled kicks by watching the 15-minute Uncharted live action fan film starring Nathan Fillion.
