How to upgrade Dragon Heart in Remnant: From the Ashes

Published , by Sam Chandler

There are a lot of things to upgrade in Remnant: From the Ashes, and the most important is the Dragon Heart. This is your primary means of healing yourself, outside of consumables, mods, and pieces of armor. As you encounter stronger enemies in greater numbers, you will want to take the time to upgrade the Dragon Heart as much as possible.

How to upgrade Dragon Heart

When you first start Remnant: From the Ashes, a merchant by the name of Reginald Malone (Reggie) will give you the Dragon Heart. He will tell you that it can be upgraded, but unfortunately he fails to provide this service or explain how it’s done.

You can begin upgrading the Dragon Heart after the Root Mother encounter on Earth.

In order to upgrade the Dragon Heart, you must first progress through the story to the encounter with the Root Mother in the church on Earth. After finishing this encounter, you will need to return to Ward 13 and speak with the Root Mother again, who is now near Ace and Reggie.

Once you talk with her, she will grant you the ability to level up the Dragon Heart. She does this by selling you a Dragon Shard, which immediately upgrades the heart. To buy it, you need:

There is one Simulacrum to find in each of Remnant's worlds. Collect them all to upgrade your Dragon Heart.

You can find one Simulacrum in each of the worlds. These can be found in dungeons or in the overworld between dungeons and areas. They glow a vibrant blue-white, similar to Lumenite Crystals, but much larger. When you do find one, it can be a good idea to bounce back to Ward 13 and get the upgrade or do it before fighting the next boss. Depending on your playstyle, you may also want to unlock the SMG while you’re there.

As for the Lumenite Crystals, these drop by powerful enemies (usually the physically larger ones) and can be found in the environment. Be sure to search every corner, as you can find a good supply in chests.

The Mender's Charm makes the Dragon Heart heal nearby allies whenever you use it.

The Dragon Heart can also be improved with various mods and trinkets. Cleansing Jewel improves the healing effect of items and makes it so that the Dragon Heart removes status effects (like Bleeding, Radiation, etc). Meanwhile, the Mender’s Charm makes Dragon Heart heal nearby allies for 50% of the total when used.

Unlocking the ability to upgrade the Dragon Heart in Remnant: From the Ashes takes an hour or so of gameplay. After reaching the church on Earth, and clearing the encounter, you’ll unlock a new merchant that can perform the upgrades.
