Looking to take a break from the pressures of putting together your perfect story in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Maybe step aside and put a different kind of pressure on yourself by jumping into the battle royale landscape of Tetris 99. On Monday night, Nintendo formally revealed the details for the game's sixth Maximus Cup event, which will be themed around the latest entry in the Fire Emblem series.
The Tetris 99 Maximus Cup - Fire Emblem: Three Houses Edition is set to run from August 23 at 12AM PT through August 26 at 11:59PM PT. Players only need to participate at any time during this event and rack up 100 event points to earn the big prize. That will unlock a special Fire Emblem: Three Houses theme for your copy of Tetris 99. This theme will include background art, Fire Emblem music, and special Fire Emblem-style Tetrimino design. It might take you a couple of sessions, but if you can pick up a victory over the other 98 players, you can score almost all of the points you need in a single session.
Previous Tetris 99 Maximus Cups have offered up different themes, including ones that crossed over with Splatoon and Nintendo's 30th Game Boy anniversary.
As is always the case with Tetris 99 Maximus Cup events, you're going to need to be a paid Nintendo Switch Online user in order to participate. Remember that Tetris 99 is primarily an online game, though there is a separate Big Block DLC pack that you can purchase in order to play the game offline. If you're just getting into the game for the first time, you're going to need some advice, so be sure to brush up on our beginner's guide to get you ahead of the game.
