After an incredible end to the last couple of Rocket League Championship Series seasons, of course Psyonix is preparing to keep the party going for Rocket League esports. On Monday, the developer outlined the next season for Season 8 of the Rocket League Championship Series, which is officially set to begin in October. And it'll notably be the first under the Epic Games umbrella.
Here are the big dates to be aware of, according to the Rocket League esports website:
Rocket League Season 8 will see the top teams from the North American, South American, European, and Oceanic regions come together for an opportunity to become the latest Rocket League world champions. They will compete for a prize pool of over $1 million across the season.
Season 7 ended in the most dramatic fashion, as Renault Vitality defeated G2 Esports in six wildly close games. Both teams wound up in Overtime, where a total team effort led to victory, with Alexandre "Kaydop" Courant lobbing the ball up for Victor "Fairy Peak" Locquet for the championship goal.
This will be the first full season for the Rocket League Championship Series under new parent company Epic Games. While Psyonix is continuing to run the RLCS mostly autonomously, the door is open for Epic to lend a hand at any time, particularly with the addition of former Overwatch League commissioner Nate Nanzer to the Epic payroll.
For those who want to flash their team colors, remember that Rocket League's Esports Shop is going strong. Shacknews will continue to follow the RLCS week by week, along with many other esports, during our weekly program, The Wide World of Electronic Sports.
