No Man's Sky may have had a rocky launch, but the game has seen several big updates adding new features and functionality. The latest of these updates is called Beyond, and it's the culmination of three separate projects from the developers at Hello Games.
To celebrate the imminent launch of Beyond, the crew have released a new launch trailer that showcases the newest additions to the game. They're no small additions, either, as Beyond introduces both online multiplayer as well as current-generation VR HMD support.
Speaking on a post featured on the official No Man's Sky website, the team speaks toward all of the latest changes in Beyond. Notably, the post says that Beyond is "the culmination of 12 months of work on what was originally going to be 3 large separate updates."
That would explain why Beyond seems to be such a game changer. Introducing online multiplayer into the universe of No Man's Sky couldn't have been a small feat, but to couple that new feature together with VR support on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlaySation VR.
As previously reported, Hello Games' Sean Murray has confirmed that No Man's Sky Beyond won't contain any sort of additional monetization or microtransactions. The update is being released for free to all owners of the game, and there is no subscription required to access it — though it does seem like players will at least need online gameplay access through their respective consoles or platforms.
