Elon Musk was up late on Thursday night tweeting, and he shared some exciting news for Tesla owners. The Tesla software V10 update's release date is rapidly approaching, with early access users getting their hands on the latest operating system for the electric vehicle fleet soon.
Tesla software V10 is shaping up to be a banger update for owners of all models. Tesla is finally opening up the touchscreen console to YouTube and Netflix, but only while parked. No idea how the data rates will work, but I look forward to watching videos on that gorgeous screen. Musk also confirmed a caraoke (karaoke) feature that will really take advantage of the sound system.
The Tesla touchscreen has been getting all sorts of new games and experiences with Cuphead and Fallout Shelter heading to the platform soon. There are already several old school TeslAtari games that are playable on the center console in the Model S, X and 3.
Tesla software V10 will hopefully bring some updates to Autopilot features across the fleet. The visualization of cars in the heads up display has been wonky for some time, and one would hope the company has been working on making the experience appear more reliable. We talked about some funny sensor visualizations on the first episode of the 9to5 Elon podcast. I also voiced my opinion on the terrible state of the media player in Tesla vehicles. It is worse than Winamp, and there is no sign from Elon that they are going to do anything about it.
There is no firm release date for the Tesla software V10 update, but keep it locked on Shacknews for more EV news. You can also follow Elon Musk on Twitter if you want to be subjected to his memes.
