EVO 2019 is kicking off in full spirit today, and we’re already seeing some big news come out of the fighting game event. In fact, we finally have confirmation on one of the worst kept secrets in the industry. According to EVO founder and Riot Games employee Tom Cannon, the developer behind League of Legends is working on a fighting game.
You can check out the tweet from Rod Breslau sharing the news above. Of course, this is something that many fans of the fighting game industry have seen in the making since Cannon and the rest of the EVO team partnered up with Riot back in 2016. While we all kind of saw this coming, it is nice to have official confirmation that a fighting game is actually on the menu. Now we just have to wait to learn more about it.
It doesn’t appear that any explicit details about the game have been released, though SonicFox, a well-known member of the Echo Fox team, and a master at fighting games took to Twitter stating, “See me in LoL fighter.” You can see the tweet yourself below if you want to respond or react to it.
We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more information about the fighting game that Riot Games is developing. For now, though, make sure you keep your eyes glued to the official Shacknews Twitter, as well as our EVO 2019 hub. We’ve got people on site at the competitions this weekend, and we’ll have plenty of additional coverage of the year’s biggest fighting game event as the weekend continues.
