EVO 2019 is something of a gathering point for the world's top talent in fighting game esports. It's also a great place for video game developers to announce their new fighting games. As such, many players were clinging to hope that Capcom or Disney would finally announce Marvel vs Capcom 4, the next numbered entry in the MvC series. However, EVO 2019 came and went without a peep about the new game. What gives?
Suffice to say, Marvel vs Capcom 4 did not appear at EVO 2019 because the game is either not currently in development or the developers have nothing to show for it. As far as we can tell, the game is not in development at all. That's not particularly surprising considering the reception garnered by Marvel vs. Capcom infinite, the sixth series installment which released back in September of 2017.
Of course, there are still rumors swirling that Disney and Capcom plan to revamp Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite and re-release it as Marvel vs. Capcom 4. While we haven't heard much about this since the rumor first surfaced around the start of the year, it is still technically possible. With that said, we'd expect Capcom to come up with a new game before completely re-branding one of the less-popular titles to be released in the series so far.
Fortunately, fans have at least been treated to the likes of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, which released for the Nintendo Switch earlier this year. It might not be MvC, but it at least provides a way for game fans to battle it out with some of their favorite Marvel characters.
Sorry, folks — if you were hoping to hear about the reveal of Marvel vs. Capcom 4 at EVO 2019, it's time for bad news. There's still no formal word on when or if Capcom and Disney has plans to release a fourth numbered entry in the popular fighting franchise. Until such time as they do, be sure to stay fresh on the latest new releases and hottest upcoming game launches by stopping by Shacknews' 2019 video game release date schedule.
