It's one day before the biggest fighting game tournament in the world. For NetherRealm, that means it's time to debut the next fighter for Mortal Kombat 11. It's been known for weeks that Nightwolf was set to come next, but on Thursday, Warner Bros. and NetherRealm formally revealed the next character in his first full-length trailer.
Nightwolf brings along much of his traditional arsenal from Mortal Kombat 3. That includes his bow and arrow, his lightning strikes, and his pillar of burning light. He also appear to be able to change up his fighting style by calling upon the spirits of different wild animals, showing off different combinations by summoning the bear spirit, the wolf spirit, and the hawk spirit. And of course, it wouldn't be Nightwolf unless he could deflect your projectiles right back at you, like a total jerk.
Nightwolf's Fatality is a fairly graphic one, as he takes his axe and whacks his opponent on the side of head, loosening their jaw. He'll then take the loose jaw and pull, opening up their torso, like he's peeling a banana. He then steps back and chucks his tomahawk at his opponent's exposed chest.
Earlier this week, series director Ed Boon had teased the Nightwolf trailer's arrival on Twitter. However, Boon does note that he did not want Nightwolf to act as any sort of EVO surprise. He added on Twitter later, "MK11 players waiting to hear news about DLC characters. We know this timing isn't ideal and FWIW this isn't our choice. But thanks for hanging in there with us."
Nightwolf is set to release as an Early Access kombatant for all Kombat Pack owners on August 13. That same day will also offer another Klassic Arcade Fighter Skin Pack, offering up old-school skins for Kung Lao, Jax, and Kano. All other users will receive Nightwolf just a week later, on August 20.
