How to recruit new students in Fire Emblem: Three Houses

If you’re playing through Fire Emblem: Three Houses, then you’ll probably have noticed that recruiting new units is a bit different this time around. In this guide, we’ll discuss how to recruit new students in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, as well as talk about the max number of students that you can have in your House at any given time.

How to recruit new students in Fire Emblem: Three Houses

There is a total of 32 characters that players can command and control in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. However, some of these characters are locked behind their respective leaders and Houses. Because of this, only 24 of the playable characters can be recruited into your House. The non-recruitable members of your house include the House leaders (Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude) as well as their personal retainers (Hubert, Dedue, and Hilda). There is some speculation that you can recruit Hilda after reaching a specific portion of the game, however, we were unable to verify that information ourselves.

There are over 24 recruitable characters in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

In order to recruit other students to your House, you’re going to need to meet a list of specifications for each new unit. For example, if you wish to recruit a character like Leonie, then you’re going to need to make sure Byleth (the main character) has a higher grade in both Strength and Spear. It’s unclear exactly what rank these skills need to be, but many have speculated that having at least a C rank, as well as a high stat for the skill is more than enough. When you’ve reached the appropriate level for your skills, you’ll also need to make sure you have a good relationship with that particular student.

You can build up the relationships that you have with the students by taking part in activities with them during your off days. This, of course, means you’ll be able to spend less time preparing for your next big battle, so take that into account before kicking things off.

Because of the way the recruiting system works in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, it’s very unlikely that you’ll be able to recruit all of the students to your House. At least, not without sinking hours and hours into the process. Still, though, it’s definitely a worthy undertaking if you want to diversify your army with plenty of units. If you need to see which skills you’ll have to be ranked in to recruit a student, then be sure to speak with them during one of your off days. If you choose the recruit option when talking to them, the game will go over the requirements needed to pull off the recruitment.
