Batman: Hush is the latest comic-to-video film from the folks at DC Comics, and as usual, the film's producers have tapped on a number of top talents to voice iconic characters. This time around, Batman's constant ally and legal liaison Commissioner Gordon is once again being voiced by the one and only Bruce Thomas.
Shacknews was able to meet up with Thomas at SDCC 2019 to learn more about his role in the latest film, particularly with regard to how he came up with the voice for Gordon. Check out the full scoop in the interview video featured below.
Longtime DC fans are likely already aware of Thomas' acting chops. What they may not be aware of is the thematic inspiration behind Thomas' take on Gordon. To hear him say it, he tapped into his own fatherly instincts, offering a take on the Commissioner that is very much grounded in the idea of Gordon as a family man.
"[Gordon's] sound mostly comes from the fact that he's a father, he's sombody that cares deeply about people in general, and specifically about the people of the city," Thomas said. "I think he's a huge, big-hearted guy who is just full of complexities.
"As far as voicing him goes, I just try to allow the father in me to come out as much as I can, and that informs the kind of sympahty I have for the people."
It's safe to say that Thomas has a great idea of how Gordon should sound. As for the Commissioner's iconic mustache, well, Thomas isn't sure it's his look.
"I can grow the mustache. I don't know if anybody wants to see it. I look like more of a 70s porn star when I grow a mustache like that."
Batman: Hush is available now through digital streaming services, and will release on Blu-ray and DVD on August 6, 2019. For more interviews and highlights from this year's San Diego Comic-Con, be sure to follow Shacknews and GamerHubTV on YouTube.
