Jason Spisak has managed to collect a slew of credits throughout his time in the industry, bringing characters like Deadpool, Scorpion, The Flash, and even Lust from Darksiders III to life. For the past several years, Spisak has appeared in the TV series Young Justice, where he has helped bring Wally West to life for DC fans. Now, though, the actor is taking a bit of a different turn, and he’s brought his own voice, charm, and acting prowess to Batman: Hush, where he plays the Joker, one of the most iconic villains in comic book history. But how exactly do you make the turn from Wally West to a character as menacing and dark as the Joker? We caught up with Jason Spisak at SDCC 2019 to talk about just that.
When poised with the question, Spisak responded simply, “When you’re in the DC universe, anything can happen. Especially when they can’t see your face.” We then continued to talk with the seasoned actor to discuss how he went about finding his own stride with the Joker in Batman: Hush. According to Spisak, he didn’t set out to mimic any previous Joker. “I didn’t really mimic anyone else’s work, because you can’t do that. I did ask them, like ‘are we doing any kind of homage or whatever?’ and they said no this is going to be a completely new universe we’ve created, and we’re dropping a new Joker in it.”
