Are you looking to bring out your inner creativity and bring some whimsical monsters to life in Concrete Genie? You'll probably need the release date for the PlayStation 4's next first-party offering. Fortunately, Sony offered up this news on Tuesday morning, so let's break it all down.
Concrete Genie is currently set to release exclusively on PlayStation 4 on October 8, 2019. So it won't be much longer before players can take control of Ash's magic paint brush and bring his colorful genies to life. But there's more! While this is a first-party effort, PlayStation will not be selling this at a full AAA price. Concrete Genie will sell for $29.99, which should come as a relief for the more budget-conscious user.
Concrete Genie was first unveiled in late 2017 at the Paris Games Week event, with Shacknews given our first opportunity to go hands-on with the game at E3 2018. The game was since delayed beyond its initial 2018 target date, with developer Pixelopus citing that the game required more polish. With Pixelopus acting as PlayStation's smallest internal studio, the game has only a few dozen developers putting it together. However, it now looks like their work is nearly complete.
Earlier this year, PlayStation and Pixelopus revealed that Concrete Genie would receive a companion mode for PlayStation VR. Here, players will follow Splotch, the companion genie found on Ash's backpack. Splotch will guide players through a drab, gray cave, as players pick up a magical brush and use two PlayStation Move controllers to introduce life and color to their surroundings. They can interact with both the world and Splotch himself. Early impressions can be found on PlayStation.Blog, but look for the Shacknews hands-on to come shortly.
There will also be a separate VR Free Paint mode, allowing players to use the various Concrete Genie tools to create their own masterpiece.
All VR modes will be available in the final Concrete Genie package, included at no extra charge.
Stay tuned to Shacknews, as we continue to follow Concrete Genie on the way to its October 8 release date.
