Classic Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 get surprise Switch launch

It looks like Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 briefly appeared via Nintendo UK's website this morning for a potential surprise release on the platform.

All three Doom games were available for a brief moment on the site, all with release dates of today. They weren't live on the shop to purchase, but at the very least it looked like they were being readied for folks to rip and tear today on the platform. Unfortunately, as soon as the games were spotted, they were pulled from the Nintendo UK website. However – that wasn't the end of the story. The games are very real, and what's more, you can get your grubby little paws on them today, which is awesome news for fans.

Pete Hines took to the Bethesda stage to announce the games would actually be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, as well as the fact that there would be various Doom activities going on throughout QuakeCon. All three games are $4.99, so you can get started ripping and tearing immediately.

The original Doom comes packing Episode IV: Thy Flesh Consumed, with nine additional levels, as well as local 4-player deathmatch and local 4-player co-op. Doom 2 comes with The Master Levels, which packs an additional 20 levels into the game from community creators, supervised by the developers themselves as well as the local multiplayer and co-op from the original Doom.

Meanwhile, Doom 3 includes both the Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Missions expansion packs. So for a few bucks, you get plenty of additional content to sift through, especially if you've somehow never played any of the classic Doom games. That's understandable, but not totally forgivable, so you'll want to rectify that immediately.

Start celebrating Doom's 25th anniversary the right way with these new ports. Let us know if you end up picking another copy of each title – we certainly will be.
