Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled fans who have been enjoying the game on Switch will finally get an update to address the game's lengthy load times soon enough.
A few mentions in patch 1.05 address an upcoming workaround that can help improve these load times, which will actually use the Switch's "boost mode" to help speed things up. If you're unfamiliar with the term, boost mode is actually a way to temporarily overclock the Switch's CPU. It only was just added to the Switch as of May, and you can use it to reduce load times. This is one of the first times we've ever explicitly seen a developer reference it in their patch notes (or talk about it outright) so it's interesting to see if it'll have further applications.
The patch will also introduce the following fixes:
Previously, we reviewed Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled and scored it an 8 out of 10:
"Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is another exemplary update for a classic game that desperately needed refreshing after remaining somewhat dormant for several console generations. True, there were other iterations, but this one has always remained the best out of the group. Activision and Beenox did well to make the tweaks they did and otherwise pack this new version of a classic chock-full of reasons to return to the game so many years later. If you're looking for a new (technically old) kart racer to dive into and give your all, this is definitely a great one to add to the pile, especially if you've gotten your fill of all the iterations of Mario Kart. "
If you happened to get the Switch version and can't wait to see how the update speeds up its performance, let us know if this patch speeds things up for you. You can expect it to debut next week or so, though there's no official date on when to expect it just yet.
