The Tetris franchise continues to undergo a major resurgence following a number of releases across several platforms. One of the biggest contributors to the Tetris renaissance has been Tetris Effect, the visually-stunning VR-supported blend of traditional Tetris gameplay and bombastic visuals. It was among the best PlayStation 4 exclusive games to release last year, but it is about to be exclusive to consoles no more. On Tuesday, Enhance and The Tetris Company announced that Tetris Effect would now be making its way to PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive. And it'll be here next week.
The PC iteration of Tetris Effect is being called the "ultimate version" of the game. It will come with ultra-wide monitor support and is able to run at 4K resolutions. It can even go beyond that with an uncapped framerate and disabled Vsync. With the PC being a mightier machine than the PlayStation 4, more graphical options will be available to the user, as this version of the game will utilize additional particle effects and textures. Of course, one of the biggest draws for Tetris Effect is its virtual reality capabilities and it will indeed be available to play on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
The PC audience sat on the sidelines and watched PS4 owners enjoy Tetris Effect for nine months, so they have some catching up to do. To help in this effort, the Epic Games Store is offering a pre-order promotion that will extend to two weeks after the Tetris Effect PC launch date. Early adopters can pick up Tetris Effect for 20 percent off of the $39.99 asking price and will also receive the Tetris Effect Digital Deluxe DLC package for no extra charge. The DLC includes a seven-track sampler of the Hydelic sountrack and ten 4K desktop wallpapers.
Let's take a look back to our original Tetris Effect review:
"Tetris Effect is the best iteration of the game franchise since the New Tetris on Nintendo 64. The team at Enhance Games took serious risks with gameplay and the payoff is tremendous for gamers. Anyone who loves puzzlers will instantly be drawn in by the new feel of it and folks who are new to the series will be surprised and delighted by the absurd attention to detail found in every corner of this game. Tetris Effect is one of the best games to be released this year, and Tetsuya Mizuguichi's team has truly changed the game for the better. This is the update to Tetris no one knew they needed, but now that we have it, it is impossible to imagine stepping back."
Tetris Effect will release on PC through the Epic Games Store next Tuesday, July 23.
