Looking forward to a new entry in the Alan Wake series? Perhaps your wish will end up coming true, as the publishing rights for both Alan Wake and Alan Wake's American Nightmare have both returned to Remedy Entertainment.
Remedy released a statement announcing an income of 2.5 million euros of royalties from the game, which the company will receive in the second half of 2019. But more importantly for gamers, given that Microsoft no longer retains the rights, it's very possible that we could see a new game in the works -- or potentially a multiplatform release for the previously Xbox-exclusive title.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Remedy ended up teasing a possible Multiplatform release this morning via statement from a spokesperson:
"The only thing we want to clarify, now that Remedy owns the publishing rights, is that we could bring Alan Wake to different platforms if we so choose," said the spokesperson. "We have nothing to announce for now. We are fully focused on Control releasing on 27th August."
So while there's likely nothing in the works just yet, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility. But with Control around the corner, it's not time to start celebrating and acting as if anything's certain just yet. This is definitely good news though, especially if you're one of the many fans around the world who have been practically pleading with Remedy to go back to the creepy world of Alan Wake.
It remains to be seen what will come of this move, but it's great news for everyone hoping to see the game come to other platforms. It's looking like it's about time for a remastered edition, too.
