Completing levels in Super Mario Maker 2 is a blast, but there are a lot of things to learn. One new addition that might give players pause is a green flag where usually a red flag appears. Working out what this green flag means in Story Mode and how to get it back to Mario’s flag isn’t too tough.
The green flag next to completed jobs in Super Mario Maker 2’s Story Mode indicates that Luigi was used to help you clear a level. Whenever you’re struggling to finish a course, you may receive a notification from Luigi. He’ll pop up on-screen and let you know he’s there to help.
In the event you want or need assistance, Luigi’s building tools can be brought out by pressing the minus button. You can then place items and objects to help you clear some challenging sections of a course. Upon completing the course, if you used Luigi’s help, a green flag will be displayed beside the job.
You can remove this flag and replace it with Mario’s iconic red flag by replaying the course. However, instead of getting Luigi’s help, don’t use him at all. You must complete the job entirely by yourself, without using Luigi.
There’s really no downside to using Luigi. Even if you resort to putting some extra blocks or items into a Story Mode course, completing it will still count toward repairing Princess Peach’s castle. This is obviously good news, as it will help you unlock the Super Hammer and Builder Mario power-up.
The green flag beside jobs in Super Mario Maker 2 might trip up some new players. Thankfully, there’s really no downside to having that marker there and if it bothers you, it’s simple enough to remove.
