How to add music in Super Mario Maker 2 Course Maker

Published , by Kevin Tucker

Nothing sets a Mario game off more than a jaunty tune, and players can add music to their custom levels using Super Mario Maker 2's Course Maker mode. Like with sound effects, music can be played by placing triggers in specific grid locations. Here's how to add music to levels in the Course Maker of Super Mario Maker 2.

Super Mario Maker 2 Course Maker | How to add music

In the Super Mario Maker 2 Course Maker mode, players can add music to levels by pressing the Sound Effects button featured in the upper left-hand area of the screen. It's the button that looks like a sentient brick block hanging out with a frog head.

Select the Sound Effects button to find both effects and music.

Pressing the Sound Effects button will open the Sound Effects toolbar. From there, most players will need to press the Search button to browse for a specific piece of music. The search button opens a menu with several radial submenus; music can be found on the blue-hued menu on the far right.

Browse through available music using the Search tool.

The rest is the same procedure used to add sound effects to levels. Once the music track has been selected, it will appear in the Sound Effects toolbar. Press the button for the selected track, then place the trigger point on the level. The song will only play in one instance, so users can stack the start triggers along planes to make sure characters pass through them as they work through the course.

Adding music to a level is a critical part of creating course in Super Mario Maker 2. After all, it just wouldn't serve to have players working through levels in total silence.
