The Course Maker in Super Mario Maker 2 allows players to customize their levels with a variety of sound effects. From the sound of a firm kick to the applause of a watching audience, sound effects can be added like just about any other item in Course Maker. Here's how the system works.
Super Mario Maker 2 players can add sounds effects to levels within Course Maker by pressing the Sound Effects button found in the upper-left area of the screen. Visually, the button appears to be a brick block with legs sitting next to a frog's head.
After selecting the Sound Effects button, the Sound Effects menu will open. From here, players can choose from several different sound effects to place throughout their courses. Up to 12 effects can be featured on the toolbar at any time, but players can browse the full collection of effects by pressing the Search button. It's the one on the far right that looks like a magnifying glass, and it will pull up a series of radial menus with the game's various audio effects.
To place a sound effect, press the button for the chosen effect, then place it into a tile on the course grid. Once placed, the sound effect will be heard any time the player character moves over the indicated tile.
Note that sound effects can be placed anywhere into a course, but they cannot be stacked onto other objects. Still, given that they're invisible when playing the level, players can use sound effects to trace specific paths or provide clues to help find hidden or out-of-reach areas.
Like with most functions in the Course Maker, adding sound effects to levels in Super Mario Maker 2 is as simple as opening the Sound Effect menu. To learn more about how to build customized levels in Course Maker, browse through Shacknews' collection of Super Mario Maker 2 game guides.
