Many Pokemon fans were ecstatic to learn earlier this year that Pokemon Home, a new system to replace Pokemon Bank, would allow them to store all of their beloved Pokemon in one place. However, E3 2019 brought bad news for the upcoming Pokemon feature, as Junichi Masuda, a Producer on Pokemon Sword and Shield, revealed that they’ll be limiting which Pokemon fans can import into the new games.
The news dropped during yesterday’s Nintendo Treehouse Live segment, when Masuda and Game Director, Shigeru Ohmori ventured onto the live stream set to talk about the upcoming Pokemon adventure and showcase more of its gameplay. The stream session itself was a lively one, with Ohmori and Masuda talking extensively about the upcoming Pokémon game.
Set to release later this year, Pokemon Sword and Sword will only allow players to import Pokemon from the Galar Region’s Pokedex into the game. Because of this, it’s possible we might not see some iconic Pokemon from previous generations able to be brought into the adventure. Of course, the Pokemon community hasn’t been very happy with this news, and many are hoping that we’ll hear some kind of update before release about more Pokemon being supported.
The fact of the matter, though, is we don’t know just how big the Galar Region Pokedex is going to be just yet, so this could pretty much be a non-issue in the end.
