Ghost Recon Breakpoint is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of 2019. Whether it’s the addition of Jon Bernthal as the lead antagonist, or the four-player tactical co-op gameplay to look forward to, fans are ready. Flying under the radar, though, is the fact that Ghost Recon Breakpoint is taking its role of putting players into the boots of elite special operations soldiers seriously, but not too seriously. Our own Greg Burke had the opportunity to talk to Emil Daubon, writer and military technical advisor on Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and Emil’s insights into the game have us more excited than ever.
Emil talked with Greg at length about the idea of giving players a taste of what it might be like to be in a real life combat situation, but never let us forget that the realism Ghost Recon Breakpoint strives for is about pushing the fantasy forward, not making the combat gameplay too realistic. At the end of the day, the goal is to create a balance between those realistic details, like how to reload a weapon properly, and the fantasy, such as drones with advanced AI.
As someone who has completed two runs of Ghost Recon Wildlands, one with friends and one solo, I was pretty sure my excitement for Breakpoint was maxed out. However, hearing Emil speak so eloquently about realism and fantasy and how the game aims to handle each was fantastic, and I highly encourage anyone thinking about grabbing the game to watch the interview personally and see what I mean.
While Ghost Recon Breakpoint might be on of my most anticipated titles to play this year, there are a lot of great games to consider.
